Back hand designs for kids
A small flower at the wrist, a butterfly, a sun, or a chain of dots on one finger.
Palm designs for kids
A flower or smiley in the centre of the palm with a dot on each fingertip. The palm stains darkest, so even a tiny design shows well.
Keeping it safe and quick
Use natural henna from a trusted cone. Test a dot on the inner arm an hour before if it is the child’s first time. Keep the lines thick, keep the design small, and let them choose the motif so they stay interested long enough for it to set. Wrap the hand loosely in tissue if they need to move around.

Frequently asked questions
What age can a child wear mehndi for Eid?
From about six, with natural henna. Younger children have more sensitive skin and rarely sit still long enough for the paste to set.
How long should a child keep the paste on?
Two to four hours. Apply after dinner on Chaand Raat and scrape it off before bed, or wrap loosely and leave it overnight if they will tolerate it.
Is black henna safe for kids?
No. Black henna often contains PPD, which can cause burns and permanent scarring. Use natural reddish-brown henna only.
